Writing Retreats for Moms

Scribente Maternum was formed out of a desire to find balance between our children as writing inspiration and their presence as a writing distraction. Our retreats give all writers who identify as mothers the experiences they so rarely make time for otherwise: mindfulness, community, and simply sitting in stillness. There is power in rest!

Join us in October 21-24, 2027 at the charming Sonoma Coast Villa near Bodega Bay, California, close to the Russian River and Sonoma wine country. We are eager to find inspiration with you, to explore and be in nature with you, and--of course--to write with you!

Thursday, October 21

After 2:00pm: Shuttle from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) -- to take the shuttle, please make reservations that arrive between 2:00-4:00pm if possible.

5:00-8:00pm: Welcome reception featuring Sonoma wines (included)

Friday, October 22

8:30-9:00am: Breakfast (included)

9:00-9:30am: Welcome and introductions from Scribente Maternum

9:30-10:00am: Opening movement and centering

10:00-11:00: Large group introductions and time to meet small groups

11:00am-12:30pm: Generative writing workshop

12:30-1:30pm: Lunch (included)

1:30pm: Group photo

1:30-2:30pm: Small groups

2:30-5:00pm: Time to write, hike, sleep, book some time in the on-site spa, or just be still

6:00: Group dinner (included)

Saturday, October 23

8:30-9:00am: Breakfast (included)

9:00-10:00am: Morning movement and mindfulness

10:00-11:30am: Writing workshop

11:30am-12pm (or through lunch if desired): Small groups

12:00-1:00pm: Lunch (included)

1:00-3:30pm: One last checkin with small groups, plus time to write, be in community, take another hike, or catch another nap or spa treatment

6:00pm: Large group closing

6:30pm: Celebratory group dinner (included) & readings

Sunday, October 24

Between 8:00-10:00am: Shuttle departs for SFO -- to take the shuttle, please make reservations that leave no earlier than 12noon from SFO (see transportation section for other options)

The Venue

Sonoma Coast Villa is a charming boutique hotel on the coastal edge of California’s wine country. Evocative of a tranquil European getaway, Sonoma Coast Villa will be our home for the entire retreat. We will be the only guests on-site, so this experience will be the ultimate in rest and relaxation.

Their relaxing atmosphere with an outdoor pool, indoor hot tub, and cozy corners to chat and write is perfect for a getaway to invest in you and your writing...and to connect with other writer-moms.

Accommodations

While the retreat and accommodations are booked separately, this retreat is an all-inclusive experience and therefore does not allow for any off-site accommodations. By investing in the retreat, you also agree to select from the following accommodations at Sonoma Coast Villa:

Single King (6 rooms available); Single Poolside King (1 room available); Shared Double King (2 rooms available): $291/night (total $875/room)
Single Poolside King Suite (3 rooms available); Single Premium King Villa (6 rooms available): $325/night (total $975/room)

The option to register for the room of your choice will be sent automatically upon registration. Book early to have the best selection!

*Any of these options can be shared between two people; however, only the Shared Double King rooms have two beds. To share a room, one attendee will register for the accommodation and let us know with whom they are sharing. We can accommodate doubles until we reach 24 attendees in total.

Transportation

We recommend that anyone flying in to book their flights into and out of San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Most major airlines fly in and out of SFO. We will be providing transportation to and from SFO for flights that arrive at certain times.

When booking, please consider the following time frames:

Arrival on Thurs, Oct 21 -- the shuttle will be departing no later than 4:30pm, so please look at flights that arrive no later than that time (give or take a few minutes).
Departure on Sun, Oct 24 -- the shuttle will be departing the Sonoma Coast Villa no earlier than 8:00am, so please do not book flights any earlier than 12noon to account for the nearly 2-hour drive.
Can't find a flight within these times? Let us know at hello@scribentematernum.com about what your options are and we can see if there might be other options such as flying into other airports.

If you are coming in early, departing late, or you are flying at times that don't work for the shuttle schedule and don't plan to rent a car, Groome Transportation has a shuttle service between SFO and the Santa Rosa Airport throughout each day. Let us know what your options are and we can make sure you get to/from the shuttle in Santa Rosa.

Investment Details

Super early-bird rate: $997 + lodging costs (until April 1, 2027, or while supplies last) if paid in full, or $97 plus two installments of $475 or four installments of $245.

Early-bird rate: $1097 + lodging costs (until July 1, 2027, or while supplies last) if paid in full, or $97 plus two installments of $525 or four installments of $270.

Standard rate: $1197 + lodging costs (until October 1, 2027, or while supplies last) if paid in full, or $97 plus two installments of $575 or four installments of $295.
